Fixing startup errors on your personal computer can range from the simplest solution to something that may take more time and knowledge of computers to correct. Most startup errors can be fixed with a few simple steps. If you just tried to start your computer and there is an error from the beginning or the computer will not turn on, first look to simple solutions. Are all the right cords plugged into the computer? Did something become unattached? Possibly there is a shortage in the electric socket. There are a number or electric problems that could be causing the problem. It is most important to check and make sure your hardware terminal is connected to the monitor if you are working from a personal computer.

If your computer is turning on and starting up, but you are receiving an error message or the computer will not startup in normal mode then the problem may be related to a program. Try rebooting the program to see if this changes any of the configurations. Sometimes the simplest task can make a large difference in the way your computer is running. If the computer simply freezes once you start it up, try pressing CTRL ALT DELETE all at the same time and see if this will allow you to reboot your computer. Most of the time this will bring up options like Task Manager and Shut Down or Log Off. From here you can ask the computer to shut down so you can start it up again and if necessary you can try rebooting the computer in Safe Mode, which will allow you access to the computer programs that you may need to reconfigure to allow the computer to work properly. If you cannot unfreeze the computer by CTRL ALT DELETE try turning off the computer and reboot it. While rebooting the computer press F8 and this will give you the opportunity to request Safe Mode without the computer processes interrupting.

If this does not solve the problem, consider other possible solutions. Did you recently install a new program or new driver to the computer? If the computer will let you, go to My Computer and then Add/Remove Programs and try to uninstall the program and then reboot the computer. Problems can occur when you try to install a new driver as well. You can troubleshoot a drive by going to My Computer then right click and then go to Properties. A few different options will pop up, go to Hardware and then there will be a box that shows drivers that are installed on the computer and from here you can try to troubleshoot or even remove the driver and reinstall it.

If none of these solutions are helping your startup problems then you may need to restore the system’s previous settings to erase the problems to date. It is best to start the computer in Safe Mode before you try to system restore so that there won’t be any processing interference. Usually your System Restore or Backup program will be located under System Tools. You can reach this by going to the Start Menu then Programs, Accessories, and here you will find System Tools and this should lead you to System Restore or Backup. From here you will be given options of the date and time you want to return to for system restoration. As soon as you confirm that it is alright to restore the computer to this point, the computer will reboot. Remember that you can always go back and change the restoration time once you have saved or changed the information you need. You can also choose the option of restoring the system manually if the time and date you want is not listed. There will be an option to create a restore point and from here you can list the appropriate time and date for restoration.

If your startup problems are not related to the computer not actually turning on properly but instead deal with needing to fix computer programs that automatically come on at startup, there are also simple solutions to correct these unwanted programs from starting automatically. The most common solution is to go into the program and see if there is a place to reconfigure the startup of the program. More than likely when you downloaded the program it set itself to automatic startup, which means it will start every time you reboot or turn on your computer. If this does not work, look in your Startup folder, located in the C Drive under Documents and Settings and probably under Administrator. If you cannot find the Startup folder, try performing a search of the C Drive from your Startup Menu. This should bring up the Startup folder and any contents inside. If the program you are looking for is in this folder, remove it. As a last resort, consider changing the name of the file that is causing the problems, but most of the time the first two solutions will reconfigure the program.
