What if fantasy football never existed? Would your interest in the NFL be different? Would you only care about following your favorite team?

Fantasy Football Rules My World

I recently asked myself a good question. "What would I do without fantasy football?" Of course, my interest in players not on my favorite team would decline. If it wasn't for fantasy football, I would not find myself rooting for Clinton Portis every week since I am an eagles fan.Fantasy football is like a drug to me with no cure. I find myself checking up on the status of the players in the NFL every day of the week. I love the thrill of being able to manage your own team and watching the scores and players updates flashing by the screen. I love staying glued to the computer while watching TV just hoping to see an update of your player scoring a touchdown. I love the bragging rights and the trash talking that goes on each week.

If it wasn't for fantasy, why would I care that Tomlinson just rushed for an 80-yard touchdown? Why would I care that Mason Crosby kicked three 50+ yard field goals? Unless, they were playing the Eagles, honestly I wouldn't care as much. When a player gets hurt, I send out my thoughts and prayers, but when it's a player on my fantasy team, I find myself going to the computer and scouting for a replacement as soon as I can.

Although fantasy football has so many positive affects on people's interest in football, it can lead to depression. It might sound crazy, but when your team does good all year and then gets knocked out of the playoffs the first round, people can fall into a quick state of depression knowing that you have to wait 8 more months to play again. Especially in some leagues when you can win a huge amount of money around the Christmas holidays. How bad would you feel, if you were winning by a decent amount of points while your opponent only had one player left and that player was in the 4th quarter of that game and caught an 80-yard TD pass in the last minutes of the game to defeat your team by a few points? Just when you thought that money was yours, it wasn't. It is a sickening feeling and the same concept happened to my friend a few years back. He was sick for a few days.

One good thing about the end of fantasy football is that there is still fantasy basketball and hockey season, but they don't even compare to fantasy football. Also, you can look forward to the next fantasy football draft. My friends and I have a tradition. Two Sundays before the start of the NFL season we all get together with our fantasy books, ranking sheets, roster sheets, and our draft board and have a really good time. The thrill of getting the #1 pick or praying the player you want is going to make it to your next pick, developing a drafting strategy, laughing at the "idiots" that draft players who are out for the season, and sitting around analyzing each team when the draft is over is a big thrill. Like I said before, fantasy football is like a drug to me and I don't know what the NFL season would be for me without it. If you haven't participated in a fantasy football league ever, I suggest you look into it for the next season. You won't regret it.
