Discrimination is the act of treating someone unjustly or unfairly simply on the basis of a certain characteristic – a few types of discrimination are discrimination of age, of religion, gender, status, social status and nationality. Let’s take a very brief look at the most cancerous of all types of discrimination.

Religious discrimination: this is the most prevalent and also probably the most lethal of all types of discrimination. We are witnessing tremendous amounts of violence and warfare primarily because of religious intolerance and the inability for one group of people to co-exist in harmony with another group of people having a different belief system about life, its purpose and God. Throughout history, these particular types of discrimination have granted license to power hungry leaders and their armies to use their crosses and crescents as justification to wage war and murder millions of innocent people. These types of discrimination alone are responsible for hundreds of wars, millions of deaths, massive poverty, the pilling up of nightmarish weapons and worldwide jaw-crunching fear. If this particular type of discrimination is not controlled globally, it could very well lead us into collective chaos. It’s time we shut our minds off to the callings of our crack-pot and power hungry religious and political leaders, who use this type of discrimination to convince us to hate and fight others with different belief systems.

Religious discrimination and any other similar types of discrimination always have their roots in a handful of people in positions of power who want nothing but more, more and even more power. In order to demolish this type of discrimination we, as ordinary people, will have to relinquish the thought processes, behaviors and actions that promote these types of discrimination on an individual level. So the process of change will begin by each of us taking responsibility for our thoughts, beliefs, opinions and openness towards people from other faiths and cultures.

Fact of the matter is that various types of discrimination have always existed throughout human history – sometimes it was race, other times it was color or gender – in the past these various types of discrimination were overt and blunt; today it is covert and subtle. But the inherent righteousness of ordinary men and women has overcome many types of discrimination in the past, and there is no reason why it can’t be done in the present.
