How Cameras work Today

Most of know that a camera is a device used to take
pictures of things we want to remember. The word camera
obscura, a Latin word for dark chamber, was used earlier
to project images where it took a whole room working
like the inside of a camera to record a picture.

Photo cameras take single pictures unlike video cameras
that take moving pictures with sound. The most popular
cameras today are digital cameras that no longer use film
but capture images and turn them into electronic data. Many
digital cameras today can take still pictures and well as
moving pictures.

Video cameras come in three different professional grades.
Very professional which only TV and movie producers use.
These video cameras are top of the line because they use
multiple image sensors to enhance resolution. Camcorders
are the kind of video recorders that people like you and I
use to record special moments in our lives that we want to
share with others and keep forever. Camcorders can also be
used to see and hear what is being recorded on a small
screen attached to the camcorder. The third type is a
webcam that is directly attached to a computer and full
motion and sound can be seen by others on another computer.
Many of today's digital cameras have video capability too.

The way digital cameras work is they take non moving
pictures in a digital format and most of these cameras
today have a viewing screen on the back so you can see your
picture before you take it. These cameras rate pictures in
megapixels and the better the megapixels the better the
pictures. You don't even have to have your photo's
developed by someone else anymore. All you need is a USB
cable to your computer and the camera will download your
pictures onto it.

Digital cameras today are easy to use and usually focus
automatically. Their extended depth of field allows objects
from many different depths come into focus at the same
time. This does however; give some pictures an "artificial"
feel to them and that is why professional photographers
still prefer to use film. Landscape photographers prefer to
use digital photography though because of its focusing
ability. Digital cameras don't need to be taken anywhere to
have the pictures taken from them today, unlike film
cameras. Anyone with a decent printer and photo paper can
make their own pictures right at home.
